What problem does the Page Cache Limit feature solve?

Many SAP applications are designed to use large amounts of memory for optimal performance. The Linux kernel pages out rarely-accessed memory for filesystem performance. These optimizations conflict causing SAP application performance to slow down, and if the application is built on Java the “garbage collection” process makes it even worse. SUSE has developed the Page Cache Limit exclusively for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications to give you control of page caching. You can set a limit to the memory that will be paged out, and therefore maintain SAP application performance. These limits are in effect as long as RAM is available in the system. For details go to suse.com/documentation/sles_for_sap/sles_for_sap_guide/data/s4s_configuration.html.

Are ISV Partner applications that are certified for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server also considered certified for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications?

Yes, since SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications of the same version and service pack are the same underlying system, third party applications that are certified on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server should function the same on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications.
