Delivers built-in business continuity with an advanced high availability solution, automated data recovery for SAP HANA, and storage security features to reduce downtime of critical operations

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension is included to support a choice of multiple HA/DR scenarios for SAP HANA and applications, including support for Relax and Recover (ReaR) on all platforms and early recognition of primary system failures, ensuring compliance with requirements to reduce downtime. Pre-/post-script commands are included to integrate SAP HANA system failover/recovery capabilities with 3rd-party HA scenarios and tools.

SAP HANA High Availability Resource Agents enhance the SAP HANA System Replication capabilities by automating the process of switching from a failing primary system to a secondary system, and handling the fencing to be sure the primary system does not become active again with STONITH. Eliminating the manual operations can reduce recovery time from hours to minutes depending on the database size. SUSE supports performance-optimized, cost-optimized, and multi-tenant HA scenarios for scale-up and scale-out configurations on-premise and in the cloud.

Persistent memory support for SAP HANA databases can significantly reduce the recovery time to load data from storage after a reboot. This includes support for Intel® Optane Non-volatile Dual In-line Memory Modules (NVDIMMs) and IBM PowerVM®-based Virtual PMEM technologies that are validated by SAP.

SAP HANA Firewall configures the additional network zones to fully protect the in-memory system from external attacks. The firewall can be configured automatically or with a guided wizard for faster set up.

Remote Storage Encryption Management provides a remote key server to store encryption keys of the SAP filesystem or SAP HANA data storage volumes on a landscape of hundreds or thousands of servers. Each one communicates with the key server to fetch a key or certificate to unlock the volumes automatically, keeping data secure and reducing recovery time after a system restart. The Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) supports 3rd-party key servers.

Support for up to a 4 PB virtual address space is available with IBM PowerVM, providing an infrastructure for future application growth with SAP HANA.

Full System Rollback provides a snapshot and rollback feature to recover from unexpected errors with a single click, minimizing risk and SAP system downtime.

Configuration and tuning packages include parameters specifically for optimizing the performance of SAP solution stacks on Linux. The Installation Wizard uses these packages to automate system set up, saving the time and effort of reading SAP notes and other configuration documents.

Workload Memory Protection is based on open source cgroup and ensures that SAP transactional and analytics data remains in memory, protecting it from Linux kernel memory management. This makes is possible to sustain high performance of SAP applications that depend on data cached in memory for fast data retrieval. This feature replaces Page Cache Management.

An SAP Dedicated Update Channel delivers SUSE Linux-specific updates and features to maintain system performance of updated SAP applications in advance of the next service pack, without updating the base operating system.

An Installation Wizard uses configuration and tuning packages to automate setup for optimal performance and the SAP high availability stack including support for SAP HANA Tailored Datacenter Integration (TDI) deployments and multiple database containers. It reduces the time and effort to set up an SAP system from days to hours.

Automated clustered SAP HANA Upgrade Package reduces complexity and potential errors with a wizard that automates managing the cluster during the upgrade, for faster software updates with reduced risk of errors.

Public Cloud Platform images are based on templates that SAP and SUSE have created to implement SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA systems on Linux in the cloud in a way that is consistent with on-premise deployments. These templates make cloud deployment faster and are available from Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.

Deployment automation for the cloud (technical preview) enables a fully automated installation and configuration of an SAP HANA cluster with selected Hyperscalers. See the release notes on the product documentation page for additional information.

SAP S/4HANA Transition Support includes features that make it easier for SAP Basis administrators who are used to working with Microsoft Windows Server to be productive working with SAP HANA systems, which only runs on Linux. These features include Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) support to provide a familiar desktop environment, Active Directory Integration, which eliminates the need to recreate user-ids and passwords, and a guide for how to execute common Windows administration commands with Linux.

System Roles gives administrators the ability to create customized scenarios specifically for setting up SAP environments including the Installation Wizard option, special partitioning recommendations, Microsoft RDP access enablement and Base, GNOME Basic and SAP Server Pattern installation.

SUSE Manager integration with the installation and configuration packages makes it possible to install, configure and maintain SAP systems from the SUSE Manager console.

SUSE Package Hub provides access to download or contribute open source community-supported and SUSE-validated packages for SAP environments using Open Build Service (OBS)

24 x 7 Lifecycle Priority Support is included for access to updates and technical support. Each Service Pack includes full support for 4.5 years, eliminating the need for Long Term Service Pack Support (LTSS). Customers can initiate a support request via regular SAP escalation channels: telephone, web front-end, CSN or SAP Solution Manager. The request will be immediately assigned to the SAP support request system, and SAP will contact SUSE if the request involves the OS. Customers also have the flexibility to contact SUSE Level 3 Support directly for OS-specific inquiries.
