Drop VMware fast with Auto-Migration. SUSE teams up with Coriolis by Cloudbase Solutions.

You lose control in the face of licensing changes. They force bundles. Prices shift. Leave closed hypervisors and regain control. Enterprise IT and Ops teams want out or to reduce dependence and lower cost by enacting a dual vendor strategy.
Do more than ease the strain. Move forward with SUSE Virtualization. It gives you new Kubernetes and AI capabilities, so you can modernize with purpose and run what comes next. Enterprises run to SUSE because it’s a turnkey enterprise platform with open source roots and impressive 258% ROI¹. But, how do you actually move critical workloads, storage, and networking?
SUSE has partnered with Cloudbase Solutions to include their Coriolis automated migration platform with SUSE Virtualization. Coriolis will migrate to SUSE from VMware, Cloud Service Providers.
Prove value with ten courtesy VM migrations for each new SUSE Virtualization subscription. Coriolis automates storage, networking and VM migrations to turn migrations from months to days. Services options are ready for all levels of support from both SUSE and Cloudbase Solutions.
Shrink migration with Coriolis cutting months to weeks
Talk to any infrastructure team that’s evaluated a VMware alternative. You hit roadblocks when it’s time to actually move production.
That’s because VM migration between hypervisors is genuinely hard. Each virtual machine needs its storage copied, its operating system configured, and its network mapped. Multiply that across hundreds of VMs with a mix of Windows and Linux. Suddenly, you’re looking at months of dedicated engineering effort, significant risk of disruption.
This is why we strategically partnered with Cloudbase Solutions. Their Coriolis platform has solved this exact problem for enterprises since 2016.
Coriolis is the right choice to migrate safely and fast
Coriolis automates the entire lift-and-shift migration of VMs along with their storage and networking. Coriolis is the right choice for enterprises because of the next three values.
- Migrate without friction
Coriolis automates what normally slows migrations down. Disk copy, OS adaptation, and VM creation all happen as part of the workflow. There’s no manual rebuild, no separate tooling, and no rework once the VM lands on SUSE Virtualization. - Zero disruption
Coriolis runs agentless. Nothing is installed on the VMs and no guest credentials are required. It works through platform APIs, so your VMs keep running while data is replicated in the background. No downtime, no impact to the business. - Scale with confidence
The same workflow applies whether you’re migrating a few VMs or an entire estate. Run migrations in parallel, add workers to increase throughput, and use continuous sync with on-demand failover when needed. One tool, one process, at any scale.
Validate before you scale with courtesy migrations
Each new SUSE Virtualization subscription includes ten Coriolis VM migration licenses. That’s not a trial or a demo. It’s ten full production VM migrations. Existing SUSE Virtualization customers get five licenses so they can continue to modernize.
The included licenses are enough to validate the entire migration path with a meaningful subset of your environment. You can verify that your network mappings work, check storage classes, and see apps come up cleanly on the other side. You’ll have the confidence and the documented process to scale to your full environment.
Supported migrations to bring to SUSE
Bring enterprise workloads to SUSE Virtualization with clarity and confidence. Coriolis supports migrations from VMware vSphere, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure into SUSE Virtualization. For SAP environments running on VMware, migrations are supported to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on KVM.
SUSE Virtualization provides the target platform, with SLES as the enterprise Linux foundation. Once migrated, workloads can be registered and managed through SUSE Multi-Linux Manager, enabling consistent lifecycle management across environments.
Coriolis migrations in five steps
The migration workflow is so simple you can describe it in a handful of steps.
- Deploy the Coriolis virtual appliance (delivered as an OVA) with network access to both environments.
- Connect your source and destination endpoints in the Coriolis web dashboard.
- Select the VMs you want to migrate.
- Choose a one-time migration or a staged cutover with continuous replication.
- Run. Coriolis copies disk data, adapts the guest OS, creates the VM on SUSE Virtualization, and cleans up all temporary resources automatically.
Select enterprise services to meet your support needs
Migration doesn’t start at the first VM. SUSE Services now offer a structured path to move off VMware with confidence, starting with a Migration Readiness Assessment. The planned service studies your current setup. It looks at the virtual machines, the storage, and the network. When it is done, it hands you a detailed report. The report gives a clear plan for the move and tells you the next steps.
From there, SUSE and Cloudbase support the full journey from proof of concept to production migration. SUSE Virtualization platform support is included through your existing SUSE subscription for 24 x 7 support, with optional Premium Support available. Cloudbase provides support for the Coriolis appliance. Both SUSE and Cloudbase have support available for round the clock coverage.

¹ Lower costs by leaving proprietary vendors, and cover the migration with an IDC study reporting 258% ROI or $3.4M a year with SUSE Virtualization and SUSE Rancher Prime.
Coriolis is a registered trademark of Cloudbase Solutions. SUSE Virtualization is built on the open-source Harvester project and uses KubeVirt for VM management.
Standard provision of supported workloads and platforms: SUSE supports migrating Linux and Windows VMs from VMware to SUSE Virtualization and SLES-based KVM environments. Migrations must land on SUSE-supported platforms. Coriolis licenses included with SUSE Virtualization are not valid for migrations to non-SUSE hypervisors.
