The OpenStack Foundation promotes and oversees the development of open source software for building massively scalable private and public clouds. Which of the OpenStack Projects are supported as part of SUSE OpenStack Cloud?
SUSE OpenStack Cloud 7 supports the components of the OpenStack Newton release, including Nova, Glance, Keystone, Horizon, Swift, Neutron, Cinder, Ceilometer, Heat, Trove, Sahara, Manila, Ironic, Magnum, Murano, Tempest, Barbican, and Designate projects. Additionally, support for the Crowbar project is included for set up and administration as well as Ceph and the Rados Gateway for distributed block and object storage. SUSE also supports selected partner plug-ins for block storage and networking. SUSE OpenStack Cloud conforms to the OpenStack Powered Platform requirements for interoperability.
What are the components of SUSE OpenStack Cloud?
SUSE OpenStack Cloud enables organizations to deploy, configure, and manage their own private clouds. It is made up of the following components:
- SUSE OpenStack Cloud administration server: The SUSE OpenStack Cloud administration server automatically deploys the cloud and configures and provisions the SUSE OpenStack Cloud control, compute and storage nodes.
- SUSE OpenStack Cloud control node: One or more SUSE OpenStack Cloud control nodes provide the cloud's self-service portal and image repository. The control nodes also automatically track the resource state of the SUSE OpenStack Cloud compute or storage nodes, identifying available capacity within the cloud and deploying workloads. Two or more control nodes can be clustered together using the SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension functionality that has been added to SUSE OpenStack Cloud. Clustering control nodes ensures the continuous operation of the cloud and delivery of end user services.
- SUSE OpenStack Cloud compute nodes: These are the physical servers that are managed by SUSE OpenStack Cloud. They are either used to host KVM or Xen virtual machines for workloads running in the private cloud or integrate with VMware vCenter.
- SUSE OpenStack Cloud storage nodes: These are the physical servers managed by SUSE OpenStack Cloud that host block or object storage using Ceph or Swift.

Subscriptions for the SUSE OpenStack Cloud Control Node plus Administration Server as well as subscriptions for additional SUSE OpenStack Cloud Control Nodes include entitlements for High Availability and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
Subscriptions for SUSE OpenStack Cloud Compute Nodes are purchased per socket pair per managed physical server and do not include SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability entitlement.
SUSE OpenStack Cloud Swift Storage Node prices do not include SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability entitlement.
Can third parties build additional capabilities for SUSE OpenStack Cloud?
Yes. We encourage third parties to build add-ons for SUSE OpenStack Cloud. While SUSE will not commit to support these add-ons, we will support the open APIs that the add-ons use. For partners that are interested in interoperability testing please contact us.
