Enterprise Linux Everywhere: SAP HANA, ERP, Database, Mobile, and Cloud
Since the first release of Linux kernel in October 1991 by Linus Torvalds, happy coincidence and hard work of people projected this UNIX-like computer operating system to incredible market positions. Linux today is present in:
- Mobile devices, thanks to Android (using Linux kernel) , where 400 million Android devices activated in 2012
- More than 90% of operating systems used in the top supercomputers are Linux-based
- SAP HANA runs on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
- By 2017, 65% of UNIX-based applications and databases will migrate to Linux (Gartner)
Based on REALTECH Whitepaper “The Trend from UNIX to Linux in SAP® Data Centers: Large. Critical. Beyond Limits.”, we find that:
- UNIX represents 90% of OS migrations source
- Linux represents 56% of OS migrations destination
- SAP customers achieve 70% and more lower TCO (SAP IT infrastructure) and gain more performance and/or reliability by moving to Linux
As per Gartner, ERP/X86 will become the standard within few years.
