Deny Product Enhancement Advisory breaks patching of systems due to a filtered dependency

This document (000021243) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager Server 4.3.x

Situation

Creating something like the following Content Lifecycle Management (CLM) filter:

deny erratum equal Product Enhancement Advisory (advisory_type)

Results in zypper dependency errors when patching systems, for example, excerpt:

Problem: nothing provides 'gio-branding = 2.70.5' needed by the to be installed libgio-2_0-0-2.70.5-150400.3.8.1.x86_64

Resolution

Remove the Product Enhancement deny CLM filter.

Cause

Currently SUSE Manager does not support creating CLM filters that filter on specifically "Product Enhancement Advisory (advisory_type)" since both "Optional" and "Feature" patch types map to "Product Enhancement".

Additional Information

Also note that with SUSE Manager, the terms "Feature Update" equals "Product Enhancement".

To see which patches are relevant to a specific package and the details of these patches, using the example package "gio-branding-SLE" using the SUSE Manager WebUI search for it  using "Software > Package Search" then select the package for the relevant product version. At the bottom of the page the relevant patches for this package will be linked / shown, for example:

Patch: SUSE-15-SP4-2022-4601
       CL-SUSE-15-SP4-2022-4601

Selecting the patches here will show details related to the patches and relevance to any filter created. For example, currently for "Vendor Advisory" with regards to the "gio-branding-SLE" package this is shown as "(none)".
