Here When You Need Us

Supportconfig from Rescue mode

This document (000021032) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

Situation

You need to generate the supportconfig and send it to the support case from rescue mode.

Resolution

Boot the system into Rescue Mode from the media.
For best results use media that matches the version and service pack of the system.

Once you are in rescue mode, mount the root partition.

Please follow the steps from the TID: How to Chroot in Rescue Mode

After chrooted in it is a best-practice to run this command to make sure all other necessary partitions are also mounted:

 mount -a

You will need to determine the network interface.

Use the ip command to check the status of your network interface:

ip link

This will show you a list of network interfaces available on your system.
Use the ip addr command to assign an IP address to the network interface:

ip addr add <ip_address>/<netmask> dev <interface>

Replace <ip_address> and <netmask> with the appropriate values for your network, and <interface> with the name of your network interface.

Use the ip link set command to bring up the network interface:

ip link set <interface> up

Replace <interface> with the name of your network interface.

Use the ping command to test the network connection:

ping <ip_address>

Replace <ip_address> with the IP address of a remote server or network device.

If you need to access the internet or an external network, you may need to configure the DNS servers by editing the /etc/resolv.conf file.

You can also use the wget or curl commands to download files from the internet, or the ssh command to connect to remote servers.

Run supportconfig
