kdump hangs with the message "megasas:waiting for FW to come to ready state"

This document (7013476) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3

Situation

Triggering kdump on an IBM x3650 system equipped with MegaRAID 1078-based SAS RAID Controller does not succeed. The output of kdump does show the following last lines:
--
...
megasas: waiting for FW to come to ready state
rport 4:0-2: blocked FC remote port time out: removing rport
rport 5:0-2: blocked FC remote port time out: removing rport

--

The used kernel is 3.0.82-0.7-default

Resolution

The megaraid controller on this system is a rather old one where firmware reset is normally not supported.

The issue is now fixed with the current kernel 3.0.101.

Cause

Additional Information

The fix consists of disabling firmware reset on PPC (PCI ID: 0x1000:0x0060) based HBAs.
