RPM installations via VNC fail

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

When trying to install a RPM via mouse click in GNOME desktop, the following error is displayed:

Local file installer is running when the session is not local

These applications should be run only when on local console. This normally indicates a bug with ConsoleKit or the way your session has started.

Result package not installed.


Installing the same package on the command line using zypper or RPM works as expected.

Resolution

Customer experiencing this issue may contact SUSE Technical Services for a Program Temporary Fix (PTF).

Cause

A problem how policykit handles VNC connections.

Status

Reported to Engineering
