ldconfig.service removes soft links pointing to /opt

This document (7018644) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

After update to SLES 12 SP2 symbolic links for libraries pointing to /opt are removed on reboot affecting proper function of 3rd party applications.

Resolution

Workaround:

Please disable ldconfig.service on system startup:

systemctl disable ldconfig.service

Cause

This issue can be seen if /opt is mounted after ldconfig.service was started. In that case the links point to a dead location and get removed.
