OpenStack, Ceph training and other enhancements simplify and improve access to certification

AMSTERDAM (SUSECon 2015)

SUSE® today announced significant enhancements and additions to its training programs for users of enterprise Linux, storage and cloud solutions. They include new courses for SUSE OpenStack Cloud and SUSE Enterprise Storage, the availability of online technical certification training and exams, a cross-certification agreement with the Linux Foundation, and an improved, SUSE-focused worldwide training partner network. These developments will make it easier for customers to obtain training to effectively run today's data centers.

"SUSE's extensive, global training ecosystem leads the market among open source vendors," said Nils Brauckmann, president and general manager of SUSE. "The depth of the course material we have compiled combined with the availability of certifications anywhere in the world will help our customers and partners maximize the benefits of adopting SUSE's innovative and powerful technology."

New Training Courses for OpenStack and Ceph Solutions
SUSE is introducing technical training courses based on two of the most important open source projects available to enterprise customers today, OpenStack and Ceph. The new training for SUSE OpenStack Cloud and SUSE Enterprise Storage covers components and tasks required to deploy and manage OpenStack clouds and Ceph-based storage clusters. Completing these courses will help customers introduce more flexibility and agility into their compute and storage environments.

Online Availability of Technical Certifications
In addition to being available at authorized testing centers around the world, certification exams for Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) and Certified Linux Professional (CLP) are now available online, eliminating any travel time and expense. CLA and CLP certifications demonstrate skills and expertise on SUSE Linux Enterprise to employers and customers.

Linux Foundation Cross-Certification
SUSE and the Linux Foundation have entered an agreement to provide a cross-level certification bundle, allowing a Linux administrator to more easily receive all four SUSE and Linux Foundation certifications for Linux system administration. For example, a professional holding the entry-level Linux Foundation Certified Sysadmin (LFCS) certification will be allowed to take the advanced SUSE Certified Linux Professional (CLP) exam. Upon passing the exam, the professional will receive not just CLP designation but also SUSE Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) and Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE) certification.

Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation, said, "The Linux Foundation is pleased to work with SUSE to provide the industry's first cross-level certification bundle. This is a tremendously efficient and attainable way for a Linux professional to demonstrate expertise in top-level, engineer-quality Linux administration."

SUSE Training Partner Program
SUSE has enhanced its worldwide training partner program to ensure a level of training suited to its enterprise-grade solutions. The new program includes a streamlined set of partners that have demonstrated their ability to deliver training to the high standards expected by SUSE customers. Partners will receive access to SUSE training materials through an annual subscription rather than by purchasing individual student kits, giving them more flexibility to meet customer demand in their training schedules. In addition, customers will be able to search for all SUSE training courses offered by partners worldwide, providing training in any format—face-to-face, online or on-demand.

Bob Brentson, president of InTech Solutions, said, "Customers need access to high-quality training with a variety of delivery methods, and SUSE's new training subscription model will help streamline the process for partners and allow them to better meet the needs of customers in the methods they prefer. For OpenStack and Ceph, SUSE's training will truly help drive their success and allow customers to maximize their investments in these solutions."
