April 3, 2009

WALTHAM, Mass.

The iFolder project, a Novell-sponsored open source initiative that simplifies synchronizing files across multiple systems and enables users to securely access and share files with other users, today announced its first open source release since 2007. Available immediately, users and developers can download iFolder 3.7.2 client and server packages and source code. The latest release adds several features, including support for new platforms, additional security options, improved handling of file conflicts, and capabilities for merging files. In addition to an updated project Website, Novell has put in place a community development plan to ensure that iFolder becomes and remains a vital open source project.

With support for all major client platforms, the iFolder client software is now available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, including openSUSE 10.3 and Windows Vista. Users also get enhanced security, back-up and restore capabilities and the flexibility to access files from a web browser on any computer. Merging files is now supported and managing multiple file versions is simplified with improved conflict management.

Available under the GNU General Public License version 2, iFolder is an ideal solution for power users, road warriors and teams that need to share files. The source code is available immediately and packages for openSUSE 11.1 will be available in the second quarter of 2009. The iFolder project serves as the foundation for Novell iFolder, which is part of Novell Open Enterprise Server. For more information on the iFolder project, visit www.ifolder.com.
