SUSE’s Environmental Data

As we continue to progress on our ESG journey, we are committed to reporting transparently on our environmental impact. By doing so, we hold ourselves accountable while identifying new opportunities to operate efficiently and reduce emissions across our value chain. Please find SUSE’s emissions and energy consumption data below.

Emissions calculation:

  • For the purposes of setting inventory organizational boundaries, SUSE has adopted the Operational Control approach. SUSE’s GHG Inventory follows the guidelines set forth in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), which was developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI).

  • Scope 1: Direct Sources – are emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by SUSE directly. Activity data and emissions include on-site stationary combustion of fossil fuel burning equipment (e.g., heating boilers) or process based emissions (e.g. backup electricity generators). Also included, are emissions from Company-owned or leased vehicles, for whose fuel purchase SUSE is responsible. The fuel sources include diesel, natural gas and petrol.

  • Scope 2: Indirect Sources – are emissions associated with the consumption of purchased or acquired electricity. Activity data and emissions include the purchase of electric power, steam, heating & cooling from the local utility.  The fuel sources include electricity (traditional),  The fuel sources include (renewable) and district cooling,

  • Scope 3: Indirect Sources – all indirect emissions  (not included in Scope 2) that occur in the value chain of the reporting company, including both upstream emissions. Scope 3 data was estimated using the spend-based method.

  • GHG emission intensity = (Scope 1 + Scope 2 (MB)) (metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent)/office area (square meter)

Clarifications and corrections:

  • In 2025, we identified double counting in our scope 3 for business travel in CY 2024. Our website has been updated to reflect the corrected figure (17,618 tCo2e).

  • In 2025, to accurately reflect our remote working structure and improve the quality of our scope 3 disclosure, we included emission from home-working which is included in our scope 3 under the employee commuting category.

  • In 2025, we included data from the Rancher Government Solutions division, which was not previously reflected; we have now included them in both the 2024 and 2025 results.

  • In 2025, to simplify our reporting we rounded all data to the nearest whole number.

  • In 2024, we recalculated our Scope 3 emissions using a single, consistent methodology and set of emissions factors provided to us by Minimum. SUSE’s 2025 Emissions Methodology Report is available here.

  • In 2024, we incorporated the measurement of emissions from petrol and electric vehicles. To do so, we estimated the emissions based on the number of vehicles. We recalculated our total Scope 1 emissions for all previous years to reflect this update.

  • In previous years, the total energy consumed in the organization figures reported did not include energy from renewable sources or electricity consumed by vehicles. We’ve updated the data to include this.
