OCFS2 mount fails during boot (OPENAIS)

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 3

Situation

During a boot of a system where ocfs2 mounts in kernel mode are part of the fstab entries to be mounted automatically, one, some or all of them fail to mount because of a timeout.

Please keep in mind that while it is technically possible to use ocfs2 in kernel mode in SLES 11 it is not supported outside of an Oracle RAC enviroment.

Resolution

The solution is to modify the o2cb settings in

  /etc/sysconfig/o2cb

# O2CB_IDLE_TIMEOUT_MS: Time in ms before a network connection is considered dead.
O2CB_IDLE_TIMEOUT_MS=60000

# O2CB_RECONNECT_DELAY_MS: Min time in ms between connection attempts
O2CB_RECONNECT_DELAY_MS=1000

this would check the connection more frequently and leaves more time to succeed.

Cause

The boot process is sometimes happening too fast for the default values of the o2cb in kernel mode.
