How to upgrade an RKE2 downstream cluster using curl

SUSE Rancher 2.7.x, RKE2 downstream cluster


It is possible that the version of Kubernetes that you are upgrading to is not listed in Rancher. Currently, this is the case for the deprecated version as per this bug [1],


The curl command below can help initiate the upgrade from the command line.

The format of the curl:

curl -v -u "$token-bear" \
-X PUT \
-H 'Accept: application/json' \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"rke2Config": {"kubernetesVersion": "v1.24.15+rke2r1"},"name": "$downstream-name"}' \


curl -v -u "$token-bear" \
