Unable to join Active Directory domain

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

Situation

When trying to join Active Directory domain the following messages is shown:

# net ads join -U <user name>
Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain 'example.com' over rpc: {Device Timeout} The specified I/O operation on %hs was not completed before the time-out period expired.

 

Resolution

Check if port 445 and 139 are blocked on Active Directory server.

Cause

At least port 445 and 139 are needed for RPC protocol communication to Active Directory server.
