cpuplugd service configuration file change

This document (000020322) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 all Service Packs
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 4

Situation

When upgrading IBM s390x systems from SLES12 SP1, SP2 or SP3 to SP4 or SP5, or to SLES15 (all Service packs), the cpuplugd service fails to recognize the correct number of CPUs assigned.

Resolution

Beginning with SLES12 SP4, the /etc/sysconfig/cpuplugd file is no longer the authoritative configuration file for the cpuplugd service, but rather the /etc/cpuplugd.conf is.

While the /etc/sysconfig/cpuplugd file remains present in the filesystem following an upgrade, do not use it to configure the cpuplugd service.

Cause

The authoritative configuration file is /etc/cpuplugd.conf beginning with SLES12 SP4.
