XEN Error Message "PM-Timer failed consistency check (0xffffff) - aborting."

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 with XEN Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 XEN SP2)

Situation

In SLES 12 XEN SP2 the following error message may be reported in dmesg:
"PM-Timer failed consistency check (0xffffff) - aborting."

Resolution

This error message on SLES 12 XEN SP2 does not indicate any failure condition and it can be safely ignored.

Cause

The PM timer can't be used by any XEN guest including dom0 because it is under the control of the hypervisor. This error message is indicating this condition.
