SLES 10 SP 3 -- Latest Kernel Updates Can Cause Network-related Issues With Broadcom Adapter/NIC

This document (7005729) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

kernel-smp-2.6.16.60-0.59.1 and kernel-smp-2.6.16.60-0.60.1 cause network connectivity issues for Broadcom BCM95701A10 network cards.

After upgrading to either of the above two kernels, the NIC card may sporadically lose network connectivity before regaining it.  Reverting back to kernel-smp-2.6.16.60-0.42.5 will prevent the issue.

Resolution

null
