pvmove hangs when using the command 'pvmove /dev/dm-X /dev/dm-Y'

This document (7004403) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2

Situation

The command "pvmove --verbose /dev/dm-8 /dev/dm-7" hangs. An attempt to abort it with
"pvmove --abort" has no effect.

Resolution

Move the Logical Volumes (LV) related to the source Physical Volume (PV) one by one.

For instance, if "logvol-01" and "logvol-02" are the involved LV, the following command can be used:
pvmove -v -n logvol-01 /dev/dm-8 /dev/dm-7
pvmove -v -n logvol-02 /dev/dm-8 /dev/dm-7
This command has to be executed for all existent LV related to the source PV.

SUSE Engineering is actually working on a fix that will be published when available.
