/proc has a directory for PID 0 (/proc/0), but this directory is not accessible at all

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 Service Pack 1

Situation

SLES10 SP1 with kernel 2.6.16.53-0.16, 2.6.16.54-0.2.3 or 2.6.16.54-0.2.5 will show /proc/0. It is only visible when running
 
ls /proc
 
(without any further parameters to ls). Other commands, such as
 
ls /proc/0
ls -l /proc
stat /proc/0
 
will all return an error:
 
/proc/0: No such file or directory
 
In most environments this is a purely cosmetic issue and can be ignored. However, there are at least two programs (net-snmp and Unicenter) known to run into issues because of this.

Resolution

This issue has been fixed with the maintenance kernel update to version 2.6.16.54-0.2.8, released on the 3rd of July 2008.
