Today, SUSE Linux, the international Open Source technology leader and solutions provider, and SAP AG (NYSE ADR: SAP), the world's leading provider of e-business solutions, announced a global technology partnership. SUSE is the first Linux enterprise operating system to enable SAP clients worldwide to run SAP's leading e-business applications on Linux and the first Linux provider to become "SAP Global Technology Partner".
"Meeting the rigorous standards of SAP and being one of its Global Technology Partners is a significant milestone for SuSE. SUSE creates solutions in which hardware, the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and applications are perfectly tuned," said Boris Nalbach, CTO of SUSE Linux.
"SUSE large enterprise customers like Siemens Business Services who run several mySAP Web Application Servers on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server benefit from this partnership with SAP. We are proud to announce that we brought SUSE Linux into the league with SAP as a global technology partner," added Holger Dyroff, General Manager Americas.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for the 32-bit architecture, x86 hardware platform was awarded the status "generally available for mySAP.com" last year. This partnership enables companies all over the world to use mySAP.com on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server while taking advantage of services and support from SAP. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is the ideal choice for SAP users for being extremely effective as an application server and also as an operating system for the database server and the SAP solutions. Additionally, since May 2002, mySAP.com has been available on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for IBM eServer zSeries. This is the first certified offer of a scalable and reliable e-business collaborative 64bit solution that can run in an LPAR (logical partition) or on z/VM (virtual machine). Additionally, engineers of both companies are working together to integrate mySAP.com into the 64-bit Itanium Processor Family (IPF).
Working with SAP
Global Technology Partners provide SAP and its customers with a wide range of products to support mySAP.com technology. They are leading global vendors of hardware, database, storage system, network, and mobile computing technology, e.g. Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun and others.
Key terms of the agreement include close technical cooperation between the two companies, enabling the seamless integration of mySAP.com on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server. With their commitment to SAP and SUSE Linux customers, both companies continue to strengthen the position of Linux as the strategic operating system for mySAP.com customers.
