SUSE® and Veristorm today announced a partnership to make big data intelligence gathering more efficient and affordable by providing certified high-performance Hadoop solutions that run directly on Linux on IBM Power Systems, IBM z Systems and x86-64. As a result, customers can use their existing hardware systems to effectively process growing amounts of data to make better business decisions.
Hadoop is an open source framework that enables distributed processing of large data sets across clusters of computers, and it is designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines. SUSE and Veristorm will support Veristorm Data Hub and vStorm Enterprise Hadoop solutions on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for Power 12 on IBM POWER8 in little-endian mode. Customers with IBM z Systems can team SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z, the leading enterprise Linux solution for IBM mainframes, with Veristorm zDoop, the first commercial Hadoop supported on mainframes. In addition, SUSE and Veristorm will collaborate on channel and partner education regarding the benefits of Veristorm's big data and analytics systems on IBM Enterprise Systems and x86-64 supported on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Veristorm will continue to certify its product portfolio on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
"The growing need for big data processing to make informed business decisions is becoming increasingly unavoidable," said Naji Almahmoud, head of global business development for SUSE. "However, existing solutions often struggle to handle the processing load, which in turn leads to more servers and difficult-to-manage sprawl. This partnership with Veristorm allows enterprises to efficiently analyze their mainframe data using Hadoop. It also complements SUSE's existing partnerships with leading Hadoop vendors, providing customers with the ability to move valuable mainframe data to Hadoop to reap the benefits of big data-related programs."
Veristorm will host a Hadoop repository that will enable customers to easily access and download Veristorm's products for evaluation on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server through SUSE's YaST and Zypper framework.
Sanjay Mazumder, Veristorm CEO, said, "Whether customers are leveraging big data to segment customers, optimize operations, or make better decisions in IT and other groups, this partnership will help them maximize their processing ability and leverage their richest data sources. Access to transaction and application log data for processing on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on z Systems, Power Systems or x86 will help customers deploy successful, pragmatic projects."
IBM Power Systems are designed to accelerate big data insights and hybrid cloud deployment, so clients are better equipped for cloud, analytics and mobile workloads and to handle complex, mission-critical applications with confidence. The Linux application ecosystem for x86-64 platforms uses little-endian mode, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 is the first enterprise Linux to support little-endian mode. IBM POWER8 architecture supports little-endian, making it easier for x86 applications to be ported to Power.
