LinuxWorld Expo: SUSE to Demonstrate Enterprise Solutions with Partners

August 10, 2000

SUSE provides innovative solutions from WAP to S/390

OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA

At the upcoming LinuxWorld Expo, SUSE Linux, the international technology leader and solution provider in Open Source operating system (OS) software, and their partners, will demonstrate the flexibility of SUSE Linux software and its cross-platform implementations from IBM S/390 through the Macintosh G4 down to WAP phones.

In addition to presenting the newly released SUSE Linux 7.0 (Personal and Professional Editions), SUSE booth features four groundbreaking aspects of SUSE recent contributions to Open Source. One area is dedicated to showing SUSE Linux on a cross-platform range of IBM hardware suitable for servers: S/390, RS6000, Netfinity, and ThinkPad. SUSE is an IBM Business Partner.

The second area highlights SUSE Professional Services. The consulting division demonstrates high-availability and clustering solutions on hardware from SUSE partners SGI and Compaq; wireless solutions with Lutris Technologies; and database solutions with Oracle and Arkeia. Two prominent Linux developers working for SUSE Anas Nashif (clustering expert) and Lars Marowsky-Bree (high-availability expert), will be available in the Professional Services area.

The third area of the booth focuses on further software solutions provided by the following SUSE Partners:

Lotus: Domino
Lutris: Enhydra
SendMail: Sendmail
SGI: FailSafe
Knox: Arkeia 4.2 Network Backup Solution
Fujitsu Siemens: Reliant Cluster
PolyServe: Understudy (High Availability product)
Informix: BEA Weblogic Server
3Ware: Escalade RAID Storage Controllers
TalentSoft: Web+Intraoffice

Rounding out the booth is a theatre area, in which SUSE and partners will be making hourly presentations. Ed Gauthier from IBM's Linux for S/390 Marketing Organization will present Linux on the S/390 at the theatre. Pradeep Bhanot, Senior Director of Linux Marketing, will be presenting Oracle products and solutions available on Linux.

"SUSE Linux is the first commercial distribution on the IBM S/390 platform and the first Linux to support WAP," said Dirk Hohndel, CTO of SUSE Linux AG. "Visitors will get a clear picture of SUSE ability to run on various hardware platforms as well as our expertise in providing comprehensive solutions through our partnerships."

"We show our visitors that SUSE Linux is much more than a distribution," says Volker Wiegand, President of SUSE Inc. "In partnering with the best hardware and software providers in the world, we give our clients and customers much more than software, we give them the wealth of our technical expertise."
