openSUSE Project to Host International Open Source Developers and Users at openSUSE Conference 2011

Third Annual Conference in Nuremberg to Showcase New Open Source Projects and Collaborative Efforts

Dusseldorf and Nuremberg, Germany,
September 1, 2011

The openSUSE Project is preparing to host 400 open source developers and users for its international openSUSE Conference in Nuremberg, Germany. The 2011 conference theme - rwx³ "Read, Write, Execute - three times for you, your community and the rest of the world" is a geeky term based on a UNIX acronym defining file access permissions for users and groups. The third annual event is expected to provide a dynamic series of presentations, workshops and small collaborative meetings.

Conference keynotes will be delivered by Jos Poortvliet, openSUSE community manager, Greg Kroah-Hartman, Linux kernel developer and Michael Miller, global vice president of marketing and alliances for SUSE a top provider of enterprise Linux solutions.

The event will offer sessions covering a wide range of Free Software topics from technical subjects like kernel debugging to business topics like cross-cultural communication and how to organize local communities. This year's conference will even include lively and imaginative sessions including an 8bit music workshop and even a course on building your own kayak by well known kernel hacker Greg Kroah-Hartman.

The agenda will cover the openSUSE distribution and its infrastructure, general open source technologies and community topics, including:

  • Citizen Journalism or How to Write a Good Blog
  • FOSS Clouds and the Cloud Project on the openSUSE Buildservice
  • Debugging Workshop with GDB
  • How to get involved and contribute to openSUSE distribution development
