SUSE believes the future of AI is about open, interoperable systems that can act on your behalf without locking you into a single vendor’s ecosystem.

Today, as the Linux Foundation announces Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), we are proud to join the newly formed foundation as a founding Silver member. Hosted at the Linux Foundation, the AAIF is the new neutral home dedicated to advancing open source agentic AI projects and standards.

An Era of Agentic Innovation
SUSE isn’t just talking about agents; we’ve been shipping the infrastructure to run them. Our support of AAIF comes fast on the heels of several key innovations over the last few months.

In October, we launched a major update to our flagship Linux offering, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 16. This release focuses on the operating system layer, distinguishing itself as the industry’s first enterprise Linux to feature embedded agentic AI capabilities. By integrating the Model Context Protocol (MCP) directly into the OS, SLES 16 provides secure and automated management.  This enables IT departments to move faster and become more productive.

Once agents are embedded in the OS, the challenge shifts to management. How do you manage thousands of AI endpoints without creating a security nightmare? In our recent technical deep dive, AI-Assisted Infrastructure at Scale, we outlined the architecture required to solve this. Central to this approach is SUSE AI’s Universal Proxy, a critical solution that sits between AI clients and the backend tools they access. This architecture ensures that as you deploy advanced autonomous tools—such as SUSE Rancher Prime’s new AI agent—you maintain complete observability, access control, and context management, allowing you to scale from one agent to one thousand without compromising security.

This brings us to today. To make “AI-Assisted Infrastructure” a reality across the entire industry—not just within SUSE products—we need shared open source compliant standards.

Why the AAIF Matters Now
The industry faces a choice: fragmented, proprietary silos or a shared, open ecosystem. The AAIF’s mission is to provide a “neutral home for collaboration, open standards, and building off shared infrastructure.”

As a Silver Member, SUSE is committing to:

  • Networking and Collaboration: Engaging with other open source leaders and technical steering committees to foster alignment on the shared specifications that benefit the entire industry.
  • Ecosystem Support: Participating in working groups to help advance open source agentic AI projects in a way that is transparent, merit-driven, and sustainable.

What’s Next?
True innovation thrives in open communities, not walled gardens. Our membership in the AAIF is more than a strategic step; it is a pledge to safeguard the open standards that will define the next generation of intelligent software. By collaborating on neutral ground to advance these critical projects, we are committing to a future where agentic AI remains accessible, interoperable, and shaped by the collective expertise of the open source ecosystem.
