Expanding Choice: SUSE broadens its digital sovereignty offerings

In an increasingly unpredictable world, our customers rank digital sovereignty as one of their main priorities. For us, sovereignty means: enabling our customers to maintain control and resilience through freedom of choice.

What resilience looks like depends on each customer’s environment and priorities. For example, a government ministry has different resilience needs to those of a food manufacturer. What is certain, is that EU regulatory frameworks such as GDPR and the EU Data Act, on top of emerging national requirements, affect all of our customers with European operations. It means they must carefully and proactively consider how to maintain greater control over their data and technology platforms. What’s more, we advise customers to consider this from the outset, rather than having to react to being locked in once it’s too late.

It is why we are proud to be a launch partner for Amazon Web Services’ European Sovereign Cloud. We will initially offer SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) and SLES for SAP images to be part of this new, independent cloud for Europe entirely located within the European Union (EU).

This announcement adds to our existing offerings designed to provide organizations across Europe with:

  • SUSE Sovereign Premium Support: Where systems and data operations are hosted fully within the European Union. Our Customer Portal is operated in the EU, restricting data transfer outside the EU boundary by processing and storing customer data strictly within the region.
  • A SUSE announced a partnership with evroc to address the need for jurisdictional control. This collaboration brings to life what digital sovereignty means in practice: trusted infrastructure from evroc combined with open, enterprise-grade software from SUSE giving customers freedom, transparency and continuity within Europe.
  • We have a standalone team driving digital sovereignty to directly address the importance of this rising need for customers and partners across Europe and globally.
