Process for Cleaning Up Old Unused Content Lifecycle Projects from SUMA / SMLM

This document (000021925) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Multi Linux Manager 5
SUSE Manager 4.3

Situation

When there is a need to clean up SUSE Manager / SUSE Multi Linux Manager Content Lifecycle Manager projects from the user interface. This includes cleaning up all filters, removing the project and removing the software channels.

Resolution

1. Get the Project Label for the CLM project you want to remove.  The project label can be set as a runtime variable or you can copy and paste into the examples done further.

In the MLM menu -> Content Lifecycle -> select the project > copy the Label field

2. Removing filters

Step 1.

In the MLM menu -> Content Lifecycle -> select the project -> under the "Filters" section click "+ Attach/Detach Filters" -> note the currently attached filters -> Remove the checks next to the enabled filters to detach them.

Step 2.

In the MLM menu -> Content Lifecycle -> Filters -> find the filters that you noted from Step 1 and click the trash can icon on the far right to delete them.  Note that you can only delete filters if they are not attached to other projects.

3. Remove the CLM project  (only removes the project not the software channels)

In the MLM menu -> Content Lifecycle -> select the project > click Delete

4. Remove the CLM software channels (doesn't free space only removing the channels).

In the MLM menu -> Software -> Manage -> Channels -> find the old CLM channels -> click an old channel -> click "delete software channel" -> repeat for all channels, one by one.  Before you confirm deletion you will see if there are any systems currently subscribed.

This can be very slow to do via the GUI, there is a CLI option detailed in TID

Cause

Old or unused CLM Projects and associated software channels are cluttering the SUSE Manager / SUSE Multi Linux Manager interface and they need to be cleaned up using a GUI process.

Additional Information

Do note that cleaning up CLM projects will free up very little space on your MLM server and is essentially removing the referenced metadata.
