USB/LAN devices fail after kernel update

This document (000021210) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5

Situation

After updating the Linux kernel to the following versions, USB LAN devices fail to initialize:

SLES15SP4: 5.14.21-150400.24.84.1
SLES15SP5: 5.14.21-150500.55.22.1

Resolution

The kernel update will be retracted. As a workaround, boot or install the previous kernel version.

Cause

A USB core race condition leads to the udev descriptor being overwritten in hub_port_init().
