PERC 12 controller: "mpi3mr_process_op_reply_desc" errors in dmesg

This document (000021183) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5

Situation

On a system with PERC 12 controller plugged in, dmesg shows following log messages:
[ 15.767410] mpi3mr0: mpi3mr_process_op_reply_desc :Command issued to handle 0x11c returned with error 0x004b loginfo 0x00000000, qid 97
[ 15.780599] mpi3mr0: mpi3mr_process_op_reply_desc :Command issued to handle 0x11c returned with error 0x004b loginfo 0x00000000, qid 97

Resolution

These messages are harmless and can be ignored.
However, the kernel update released July/2023 (5.14.21-150500.55.7.1) includes a patch suppressing these messages, unless debug mode is enabled for the driver.

Cause

The mpi3mr driver prints informational messages that might be interpreted as an indication of an error or failure.
