New Systems Management Module containing Salt and Ansible

This document (000021807) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP7 (BETA)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP applications

Situation

SUSE has decided to provide and support Ansible version 11 and newer salt versions.
In order to facilitate this change a new module was added to SLES15SP6 and the upcoming SLES15SP7 (currently in Beta).

A new module was added to SLES15SP7 that was also enabled for SLES15SP6 called "Systems Management".

As mentioned in the SLES15SP7 PublicRC-202504 announcement:

"SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 Service Pack 7 is a feature-rich update that includes
the new Ruby 3.4 interpreter, Python 3.13, php8.3, and a new “Systems
Management” Module containing Salt and Ansible."

Currently ansible version 11.3.0-150400.10.3.2 and ansible-core 2.18.3-150400.9.3.2 are available in SLES15SP6.

The new "Systems Management" module is dependent on the existing "Python 3 Module" being activated.

In the suseconnect -l output this is what to expect:

Python 3 Module 15 SP6 x86_64 (Activated)
Deactivate with: suseconnect -d -p sle-module-python3/15.6/x86_64

            Systems Management Module 15 SP6 x86_64
            Activate with: suseconnect -p sle-module-systems-management/15.6/x86_64

The Systems Management module is classified as "recommended" so it will be enabled during install to align with future plans for packages in the module.

On RMT servers this module can be enabled and mirrored with the rmt-cli command:

rmt-cli repos enable 7960 7962
rmt-cli mirror repository 7960 7962

On SUSE Multi Linux Manager servers (formerly SUSE Manager / SUMA) the module must be enabled in the Admin, Setup Wizard, Products tab, it is titled:

"Systems Management Module 15 SP6 x86_64"

Resolution

There may be errors during SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6 installation if the Systems Management module is not enabled and available.

"Details: HTTP error code: 422

Not all mandatory repositories are mirrored for product Systems Management Module 15 SP6 x86_64.
Missing Repositories (by ids): 7960 7962. On the RMT server, the missing repositories can get enabled with:
rmt-cli repos enable 7960, 7962; rmt-cli mirror"

Cause

This TID is meant to provide information regarding the newly released Systems Management module.

Documentation for the new module can be found in the Documentation for SLES15 SP6 - Modules and Extensions Quick Start

Additional Information

There are new packages to be delivered in SLES for SAP versions that are dependent on the ansible packages delivered in the Systems Management Module:
 ansible-sap-infrastructure
 ansible-sap-install
 ansible-sap-operations

The Systems Management module must be enabled and mirrored before installing these SAP related ansible packages.
