Package search returns no result in the web-ui

This document (000020701) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 4.3
SUSE Manager 4.2
SUSE Manager 4.1

Situation

Using the package search function in SUSE Manager (in the web-ui, "software" -> "package search") stopped working. Even searching for packages that are known to exist throws no results. Running commands such as:
rhn-search cleanindex
systemctl restart rhn-search
doesn't change the situation either.

Resolution

Enter the following command as root on the SUSE Manager Server:
echo "alter sequence pxt_id_seq restart with 1;" | spacewalk-sql --select-mode -
It should be noted that no stop/restart of services is needed for the command, and neither any loss of service is to be expected. It will take effect immediately.

Cause

xmlrpc only supports integers, which end after a certain number. Type "long" is not supported, and the software will not work with it (this was tested in the past and failed).

Status

Reported to Engineering

Additional Information

The resolution may appear to be a work around, but is not. Engineering is considering alternative solutions (such as changing the API), but none are available so far.
