iSCSI Gateway creation error : "failed package validation checks - OS is unsupported"

This document (000019819) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Enterprise Storage 7
SUSE Enterprise Storage 6

Situation

When the iSCSI Gateway is created using the "gwcli" command line, an error similar to the following occurs:

  /iscsi-target...0822/gateways> create ses7-node2.example.com 192.168.17.202
  Adding gateway, sync'ing 1 disk(s) and 0 client(s)
Failed : ses7-node2.example.com failed package validation checks - OS is unsupported

Resolution

Add the "skipchecks=true" parameter to the iSCSI Gateway creation command.
For example:

  /iscsi-target...0822/gateways> create ses7-node2.example.com 192.168.17.202 skipchecks=true
OS version/package checks have been bypassed
  Adding gateway, sync'ing 1 disk(s) and 0 client(s)
  ok

Cause

If not using RHEL/CentOS or using an upstream or ceph-iscsi-test kernel, the "skipchecks=true" argument is required.

This will avoid the Red Hat kernel and rpm checks.
