When creating a Read-only API user in the suma web UI, the password length can exceed 32 characters.

Environment

SUSE Manager 4.0 Server
SUSE Manager 4.1 Server

Situation

When creating a Read-Only API user in SUSE Manager 4.0 or SUSE Manager 4.1 web UI, the password can be longer than 32 characters, however the following error is reported in spacecmd :

ERROR: redstone.xmlrpc.XmlRpcFault: unhandled internal exception: Passwords cannot be more than null characters.

Resolution

You can add a maximum password length limit in /etc/rhn/rhn.conf  as follows:

max_passwd_len = 32

Updating the system to the latest patch may also solve this problem.

  • browser may not support > 32 characters
