LVM iscsi target setup in yast fails with error "Please provide a normal file or a block device"

This document (7023846) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP0

Situation

The error "Please provide a normal file or a block device" is presented when trying to use a logical volume for an iscsi target. If you specify by dm device, eg /dev/dm-4, it will work. This is not recommended as the device mapper names are not persistent through reboot and will likely fail to present target upon reboot.

Resolution

The fix was released in package yast2-iscsi-lio-server version 4.0.12-3.6.1 or higher. Patch to the latest version.

Cause

yast2-iscsi-lio-server 4.0.11-3.3.1 did not follow the symlink to the device mapper file. This was resolved in newer version of yast2-iscsi-lio-server-4.0.12-3.6.1.
