ext4: first meta block group too large

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

An ext4 file-system fails to mount with the following error:

EXT4-fs (dm-0): first meta block group too large: 1 (group descriptor block count 1)

Resolution

The kernel update, kernel 4.4.59-92.17.3 released May 2017 includes the patch to resolve this problem. Please install the recommended update.

Cause

A faulty file-system condition check in the s_first_meta_bg validation.
