SMT::Mirror::RpmMd - [error] Error getting patch data from repository: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Incorrect string value.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

Following a 'smt-mirror' event, SMT is updating the patch data into the database when the following messages were observed :

2017-02-19 02:56:54 SMT::Mirror::RpmMd - [info]  Updating patch data in the database (172 patches)
2017-02-19 02:57:17 SMT::Mirror::RpmMd - [error]  Error getting patch data from repository: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Incorrect string value: '\xE2\x80\xB2 fa...' for column 'TITLE' at row 1 at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.18.2/SMT/PatchRef.pm line 150.

Resolution

The problem is resolved following the SMT update to version smt-3.0.23-42.1.x86_64.

Cause

The SMT PatchRefs table needed to be converted to UTF8.

Additional Information

Please do make sure that when applying the SMT patch, to acknowledge executing the schema upgrade by typing "y", or to manually execute the "smt-schema-upgrade" command.
