Samba printjob Properties cannot be displayed

This document (7015986) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)

Situation

On a Windows 7 or 8 client, trying to view the Properties of a printjob sent to a samba/cups print server result in the following error on the client:

Document properties cannot be displayed. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000057).

The samba log shows the following error:

[<date> <time>, 5, pid=24832]

  get_stored_queue_info: total_count = 2

          out: struct spoolss_GetJob

              needed : *
                  needed : 0x00000000 (0)
              result : WERR_INVALID_PARAM

Resolution

The samba maintenance update: samba-3.6.3-0.56.1 released February 2015 includes the patch to correct the spoolss EnumJobs and GetJob responses. Please install the recommended update.

Cause

Incorrect spoolss EnumJobs and GetJob codepaths are causing the problem.
They use and return the printing backend job identifier (sysjob), rather than the one allocated and returned by Samba on job submission.
