Directory listing gives results which do not match the search pattern (SAMBA)

This document (7007729) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

Mounting a Samba share a directory listing does not give the expected return

For example:

P:\Data1000\production\import\testxml\importing>dir rv*
13.12.2010 11:10 1.576 RW_Testfile_20101213150003_221.xml
13.12.2010 11:10 1.553 RW_Testfile_20101213150003_224.xml
13.12.2010 11:10 1.704 RW_Testfile_20101213150003_229.xml
13.12.2010 11:10 1.776 RW_Testfile_20101213150003_230.xml

These are not the expected return values.

Resolution

By default, samba matches wildcard patterns against long names and mangled

(8.3) names.

So if the matching does not work this mangling can be turned off by setting

in /etc/samba/smb.conf:

[global]
mangled names = No
