gdm can not pass arguments to the X server

This document (7003851) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11

Situation

Since a major rewrite upstream gdm can no longer pass arguments like "logverbose 6" to the X server.
A set of arguments is hardcoded and all other arguments are ignored.

Resolution

SUSE Engineering released a fix for SLED and SLES 11, which is available as maintenance update since 2009-Aug-27.

Additional Information

To make use of this feature, create a configuration file /etc/gdm/custom.conf and add the lines:

[daemon]
LocalXserverCommand=/usr/bin/X -br -verbose 9

Here "-verbose 9" had been added. Note that it is necessary to put the complete commandline in there.
