XEN: DomU terminal window hangs after AppArmor loads

This document (7002171) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 1

Situation

When attempting to connect to the DomU console via text or graphical terminal, the server appears hung.

Resolution

Contrary to the messages, the server is not hung. Rather, AppArmor, which is a security profiling application, prevents access to the console. If the DomU is healthy, you should have remote access using SSH or VNC if those services are enabled.

This can be fixed by starting the DomU with the "xencons=tty" kernel parameter.  This parameter instructs DomU where to attach the Xen virtual console device.

For information about how to start a DomU with that parameter, please see Support TID 7001929, "XEN: Passing kernel parameters to para-virtual DomUs"
