Automatic installation can't find installation source

This document (3428718) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1

Situation

You try to install a system with AutoYaST. The autoyast.xml file is located on a floppy disk and you use a CD or a DVD as an installation source. When you use the boot option

autoyast=floppy

the installation process stops at an early stage (text mode) with the message:

Can't find installation source

Resolution

This is a bug in AutoYaST, which does not pass the right installation source to the system. We are currently investigating this and will release an update soon.

Either also pass the installation source as a boot option

autoyast=floppy install=cd

or use

autoyast=usb

The second option does a fallback to floppy if no usb media is found but correctly sets the installation source.
