Configure different timezones on a per user basis

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

 

Situation

You want to set up different timezones for individual users on your system.

Resolution

The timezone setting is controlled by the the TZ environment variable. Use the tzselect command to identify the appropriate value for the TZ environment variable and the instructions it provides to change TZ permanently.

The date command can be used to display the current date and time according to the current timezone setting.
