This document (3143761) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SuSE Linux Desktop 10

Situation

With SLED 10 you have the ability to auto-login as a specific user and either require a password or not. This is useful for public access systems where user level security is not an issue.

Resolution

Start YaST and select the following dialogs:

  • Security and Users ->
  • Edit and create users ->
  • Expert Options... ->
  • Login Settings
Select the option "Auto Login" and choose the user to log in from the drop-down box.
Selecting "Passwordless Logins" will allow login without requiring a password.
Save the changes by pressing "OK" ->"Finish".
