Here When You Need Us

The Main Menu (SLAB) hangs while thumbnailing files.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
Lotus Notes Client for SLED

Situation

The Lotus Notes client comes with an executable called "convert" which will bypass the convert program used for thumbnailing on the GNOME Main Menu (also known as the SLAB. The Lotus Note installer adds its own custom path commands which seems to be causing this issue.

Resolution

There is a workaround for this issue until it can be properly addressed by IBM. The workaround is to edit .profile (found in your users home directory) and commented out the portions that had been modified by the Lotus Notes installer. An example of the .profile, after the edit, is given below.

.profile example:
# var 1 : PATH="/home/username/notes/jvm/bin":"/home/username/notes":`echo$PATH`
#if [ -z "`echo $PATH`"]
#then
#PATH="/home/username/notes/jvm/bin":"/home/username/notes"
#else
#PATH="/home/username/notes/jvm/bin":"/home/username/notes":`echo $PATH`
#fi
#export PATH
