SUSECON 2017 is coming to Prague. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be able to say that! As the director of SUSECON, I am tasked with making sure that the location selected for our flagship event is a suitable place for us to showcase our open culture, personality, technology and solutions. I love finding spaces that help us celebrate all that is unique about SUSE and our open philosophy, and in Prague we have found a city that meets that standard!
We evaluated over 50 locations for SUSECON this year, culminating with site visits to eight locations in five countries across Europe. All of the locations that we investigated had some unique attributes, and most would have been acceptable for SUSECON. But Prague proved to be the best choice for us for a number of reasons. Let me tell you a few of the reasons why Prague was open enough to host SUSECON.
Number one: Architecture. As you walk through the city, you see incredible architecture that calls attention to a populace who has taken great pride over the centuries to keep their city unique and beautiful. And it’s not just historic buildings – Prague has very unique modern buildings as well. While you’re there for SUSECON, consider taking an architecture tour to see what they have. The correlation to SUSE is easy – we love architecture as well! You can’t be around a SUSE person for very long without hearing them boast about how we have the best-built Linux in the industry (it’s true) and we love to talk about it.
Number two: Technology. When you walk through the Old Town in Prague, be sure to stop and take a look at the Prague Orloj, a medieval astronomical clock located on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall. Besides its ornate beauty, this technological marvel (third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest still operating) has been telling time for over 600 years! The Czechs know how to create good technology. And so does SUSE! As the original enterprise Linux company, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary this year (while we are at SUSECON!) Our history of leading open source technology development is rich, and we can’t wait to show you what’s coming next.
Number three: People. The people of Prague are warm and personable. Without exception they were quick to greet me and welcome me to their city. They are proud of who they are and what they have, and they are eager to share it with the world. So too with SUSE people. When you come to SUSECON, you will meet all sorts of people who are quick with a smile and eager to engage in conversation. Be sure to shake hands and check the name badge – it could be one of our gifted engineers, or it could be Nils Brauckmann, our CEO. We all come to SUSECON to meet our customers and partners and to share with you why we are so proud to be SUSE.
So let me invite you. Join us this year in Prague, on September 25-29 for SUSECON 2017. You’ll experience incredible technology, learn more than you thought possible, and almost certainly make new friends. SUSECON is a unique technical conference – come and find out why!
