Expanding SUSE’s reach to the Tiny Edge

We are pleased to announce the availability of the SUSE Industrial Edge solution. SUSE Industrial Edge is SUSE’s purpose-built industrial IoT platform, unifying operational data and enterprise intelligence across industrial environments.  This new offering joins the SUSE portfolio following the successful February 2026 acquisition of Losant, an industrial enterprise IoT platform. This move is more than an expansion of our portfolio; it is the realization of a long-term strategic vision to provide a truly end-to-end open edge computing platform for the industrial world.

Completing the Edge Spectrum

While SUSE is a dominant force in the Near Edge (Telco) and Far Edge (powering everything from hospital monitoring to marine engines), it was missing a compelling offering at the industrial Tiny Edge. This Tiny Edge is the critical layer of sensors and constrained devices where foundational data is born. By integrating Losant’s IoT platform, we have closed that gap.

The SUSE Industrial Edge solution is also a game changer for our customers. It allows SUSE to solve the last mile problem of industrial IoT. It also enables us to transition from delivering individual infrastructure components at the Edge, to providing a concrete, end-to-end operational platform that bridges the distance between the factory and enterprise intelligence.

SUSE Industrial Edge: A differentiated offering

Today’s IoT deployments in enterprises often result in siloed solutions across various operational sites, such as production facilities, stores, ships or smart offices. This fragmentation forces companies to manually correlate data to understand site-specific activities and prevents them from achieving a unified view across their entire estate. The lack of real-time visibility into operations means that performance degradation and availability issues are only identified and addressed reactively.

The SUSE Industrial Edge solution, built on Losant technology, is specifically designed to address these customer pain points. It also provides an easily customizable approach to unify operations and supports a broad range of cross-industry use cases, as illustrated in Figure 1.

SUSE Industrial Edge’s vendor-neutral and protocol-agnostic architecture is key to this versatility. It normalizes data from numerous diverse sources—such as Siemens, Beckhoff, HVAC systems, retail kiosks, computing systems, ship engines, or any OPC UA source—into a single, unified view.

Key features that drive the value of SUSE Industrial Edge include:

  • Universal compatibility: Protocol-Agnostic and seamless connectivity by supporting various communication standards.
  • Simplified operational logic: A No-Code/Low-Code Visual Workflow Engine eliminates the need for complex coding to create and modify processes.
  • Centralized visibility: Multi-Level, Single Pane of Glass Dashboards provide comprehensive monitoring across all lines and sites.
  • Pre-Built Application Templates: Offers a rapid start for common industrial scenarios.
  • Easy integration: Seamless Connectivity facilitates straightforward integration with existing enterprise IT systems.

These capabilities are designed to accelerate the time to insight and directly empower operations teams with continuous improvement tools. Operations teams gain immediate benefits through real-time dashboards, automated anomaly alerts, and the ability to compare performance, all from a single screen.

Strengthening the ecosystem through the Margo initiative and open sourcing

SUSE is significantly increasing its commitment to the Linux Foundation’s Margo initiative, which drives open interoperability and standardization in industrial edge automation. By joining the Margo Steering Committee, SUSE will accelerate global interface standardization and broaden the Margo ecosystem. Consistent with its values, SUSE will also open source the Losant technology, strengthening its dedication to community innovation.

SUSE is integrating SUSE Industrial Edge into its product portfolio, reinforcing its role as a unified open platform across cloud, edge, and AI. This integration specifically enables a robust platform for intelligent edge workloads when combined with SUSE AI.
