Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP6


Situation

After upgrading to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6, a script that was running fine before now runs into the following error:

/sys/fs/cgroup/memory/no_swap_java/memory.swappiness: Permission denied
ERROR: Could not activate cgroup

Resolution

To enable the hybrid control group hierarchy, append systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 as a kernel command-line parameter to the GRUB 2 boot loader.

Cause

The default behavior for cgroups has changed between the support packs.
