SUSE signs EuroStack letter to call for strong commitment to sovereign digital infrastructure

We’ve discussed before how digital sovereignty is a global phenomenon. Ultimately how each business decides how to enact digital sovereignty will be up to them, based on their priorities and local requirements.

It is a live topic in Asia, the Americas and Africa. And currently in Europe, there is a dominant conversation happening that I’m part of daily with customers. Across the continent, IT leaders want options – over their operations, location of their data, and who builds and services their tech stacks. They specifically want to have more local choice, native to their own jurisdictions. We are working with customers to keep their data local, operations adaptable and their options open.

Joining EuroStack

More widely, we also support those who are actively campaigning to bring local solutions to customers at scale across Europe. For that reason, we are delighted to join the EuroStack initiative. EuroStack is a European Industrial Policy initiative bringing together tech, governance and funding for Europe-focused investment. The EuroStack mission is to build and adopt a suite of digital infrastructures: from connectivity to cloud computing, AI and digital platforms.

This cannot be accomplished in isolation. SUSE is proud to join this initiative as it aligns with our promise to help organizations achieve digital sovereignty by offering open, secure and flexible solutions that enable them to maintain full control over their infrastructure and software stack. We support enterprises in addressing vendor lock-in risks and localization requirements while managing their digital environments.

EuroStack shares many of our core beliefs – the open source ethos, emphasizing transparency, verifiability, interoperability and vendor independence. We share aims and objectives too – prioritizing adoption, common standards, promoting open source, stimulating demand, harmonising requirements and increasing public funding for capital intensive projects. We are impressed by their leadership in this space and are excited to work with them to drive the creation and adoption of sovereign solutions at scale in Europe.

No matter where you are located, we know digital sovereignty is top of mind. How this is delivered will vary based on customer needs. This might be part of a global relationship or a more local solution. We are committed to offering choice for our customers and partners on sovereign solutions.
