Today, we announced that SUSE acquired Losant, an enterprise Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform leader. This is an exciting moment for our Edge strategy and for the broader industrial ecosystem.

I want to begin by thanking our executive leadership team for their conviction and partnership in driving this vision forward, especially Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen, Frank Feldmann, and Thomas Di Giacomo. Strategic moves like this require alignment across strategy, product and execution.

That alignment has been strong and deliberate.

I’d also like to thank the joint customers and partners of SUSE and Losant who make this vision a practical reality. They helped us see how we would work better together and we look forward to extending those collaborations further.

The Edge Is Where the Physical World Meets the Digital World

The Edge is not just another deployment model. It is the point where the physical world meets the digital world. It is where sensors, controllers and machines generate the operational signals that define productivity, safety, efficiency and resilience.

For years, SUSE has delivered the open, secure infrastructure foundation for the near and far edge with technologies such as SUSE Linux Micro and K3s. What has been missing is a unified application and orchestration layer designed to solve the fundamental challenge of edge computing at scale: turning raw operational data into coordinated, real-time awareness across highly distributed environments.

Today, with Losant, that gap closes.

Losant has built exceptional software. Their enterprise Industrial IoT platform delivers intuitive device connectivity, workflow orchestration, visualization and automation capabilities that make industrial data usable, actionable and more valuable. The strength of their architecture and the clarity of their user experience are a credit to the Losant team. We are honored to bring that innovation into SUSE.

From Infrastructure to Scaled Operational Awareness

Our combined focus is clear: scaled operational awareness.

Industrial customers do not simply need infrastructure. They need visibility across fleets of devices, across plants, across regions, and across entire value chains. They need agility to respond to shifting production demands, supply chain disruption, evolving compliance requirements and competitive pressure. They need the ability to deploy once and adapt continuously.

They also need to securely connect operational technology with enterprise IT systems. They need real-time insight, governed automation and the confidence that their platform will scale with them.

By integrating Losant’s Industrial IoT (IIoT) platform with SUSE’s edge infrastructure, we are creating a cohesive foundation that bridges operational technology and enterprise IT. This enables organizations in healthcare, manufacturing, energy, smart cities, and other sectors to move from isolated device data to coordinated, intelligent operations at scale.

AI at the Nexus of Operational Technology and Information Technology

The Edge is also where artificial intelligence (AI) becomes most meaningful. In industrial contexts, AI must extend orchestration into the real world.  API-driven infrastructure combined with Model Context Protocol enablement and intelligent workflows at the edge allows organizations to:

  • Detect anomalies in real time
  • Orchestrate automated responses
  • Maintain human oversight and governance
  • Preserve digital sovereignty across distributed environments

At this nexus of operational technology and enterprise IT, AI becomes a force multiplier for operational awareness. It enhances human decision-making while preserving control and accountability. It strengthens sovereignty at a time when control over data and infrastructure is a present strategic imperative.

Looking Ahead: Losant on a Unified Infrastructure Stack

This acquisition is not only about today’s integration. It is about the future architecture.

Internally, we are advancing a unified infrastructure stack designed to provide a consistent deployment and lifecycle experience across a wide variety of architectures and distributed edge environments. It emphasizes validated stack integration, modular layered capabilities and an accelerated approach to governance, risk, and compliance readiness.

Over time, we envision a future version of the Losant platform running on top of this unified infrastructure foundation. That combination would bring:

  • A consistent operational model across distributed edge deployments
  • Stronger validation and resilience in constrained and failure-prone environments
  • Modular extensibility for AI and advanced capabilities without re-platforming
  • A hardened, globally aware security and compliance posture

In short, it aligns Industrial IoT application capabilities with a deeply engineered, enterprise-grade edge foundation designed for trust at scale.

Our Commitment to Open Innovation and Choice

SUSE has always stood for open source and open standards. As we integrate the Losant technology, we intend to open source the Losant technology and work with aligned open source communities assessing where Losant technology can accelerate interface standardization, interoperability, and process automation capabilities globally.

More details will come as plans mature. What will not change is our commitment to providing customers with choice through open source software, open standards, and interoperable ecosystems.

A Strategic Step Forward

This acquisition represents a deliberate expansion of SUSE’s Edge vision. It strengthens our position across industrial sectors and reinforces our commitment to open, interoperable solutions. It also reflects sustained strategic focus and collaboration across teams to ensure we could bring forward a platform that truly complements our infrastructure foundation.

We are proud of the work that has brought us to this point and grateful to the many colleagues, partners, and leaders who helped make it possible.

The Edge is where the digital and physical converge. With Losant and SUSE together, we are building the foundation for secure, intelligent and open operational awareness at that convergence point.
